Charlie Lucas
Biography
Charlie is a freelance lighting designer, re-lighter and production electrician. Current productions include Von Ribbentrop's Watch, a new comedy by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, directed by Brigid Larmour, designed by Emma Wee and opening at Oxford Playhouse in September.
Recent lighting designs include The Elixir of Love (Blackheath Halls Opera), Entwined and Questions of Intimacy (The Place, Robin Howard Dance Theatre, as part of Resolution 2010!), sohostreets (Soho Theatre and site-specific); In Blood: The Bacchae (Arcola Theatre); French Paste (Shaw Theatre); Finisterre (Theatre 503); The Slow Sword (Old Red Lion Theatre); superplays return: revenge of the under 11’s (Soho Theatre); Scenes from the Big Picture (Poor School); Dolly West’s Kitchen, The Canterbury Tales, Vinegar Tom (Vanbrugh Theatre); Touched, Barbarians (GBS Theatre). He also redesigned the lighting for Arcola Theatre’s bar and foyer as part of their carbon-neutral energy initiative.
Charlie has recently worked as associate to Johanna Town, on Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York's and for Out of Joint & Soho Theatre's tour of Dreams of Violence. He was production electrician and re-lighter for the Eclipse Theatre/West Yorks Playhouse tour of The Hounding of David Oluwale. He has also worked as lighting supervisor for Scottish Opera, supervising and re-lighting The Secret Marriage and La Boheme.
