Lighting Designers Subsidised Theatre Fees Campaign

The ALD, Equity and BECTU all agree that the current SOLT/TMA Lighting Designers minimum fees are not adequate and it is now the intention of the three organisations to campaign together to achieve parity with the Set and Costume Designers minimum fees. Representations have been made to both SOLT and the TMA who have steadfastly refused to realign the LD minimum fees.

In the first instance the ALD, Equity and BECTU have agreed to target Subsidised Repertory Theatres. If this strategy is successful we will then target other sectors.

With your help and support we are attempting to secure for Lighting Designers working in Subsidised Repertory Theatres minimum fees which will be no less than 50% of the minimum fee paid to the Designer (when they do both set and costume).

From May 2007 if you are offered work in this sector and the fee is less than 50% of the minimum fee paid to Set and Costume Designers we want you to refuse the engagement. We do realise and appreciate that asking Lighting Designers to refuse work is a big ask but in the circumstances we feel this will be the most effective method to apply pressure to those theatres who offer to pay only the minimum fee.

If Lighting Designers stick together on this important principle we can together ensure that fees are increased in this sector.
