ELP and White Light – One Year On…

On January 6th 2020, ELP and White Light (WL) joined forces by entering a strategic partnership . This partnership was formed to allow both companies to draw on each other’s technical expertise, state-of-the-art inventories and years of experience; ultimately offering their diverse client list the best service possible. With it recently marking one year since the partnership began, we thought we’d look back on how it has evolved, some of the projects we have delivered and how we have adapted during the Covid-19 pandemic.

ELP is a company with over forty years’ experience. During this time, it has built an unrivalled reputation for providing lighting technology and production support to some of the world’s most watched broadcasts; whether it’s the general election coverage, Last Night of the Proms or international Sporting Events. The company’s Sales Director Darren Fletcher comments: “I’ve worked at ELP for over fifteen years now and the strategic partnership with WL was a natural progression for us. We saw what they were doing in terms of their broadcast output and, as a company that shares similar core values when it comes to our work ethic and ethos, it made sense to join forces. We knew we had a range of exciting broadcast projects in the pipeline, as did they, and we both wanted to ensure that all of our customers, both old and new, were given the best service possible”.

ELP Broadcast Lighting are based in Manchester whereas WL is based in Wimbledon, London; with these two separate bases meaning both divisions are well placed to serve projects all across the UK. This has certainly proven to be the case over the last twelve months, with both companies having supported a range of broadcasts including the Six Nations, UEFA Nations League, Festival of Remembrance, BBC Proms, Russell Howard Hour, Autumwatch, Winterwatch, BT Sport’s Early Kick Off and BBC Breakfast to name but a few. WL’s Broadcast Key Account Manager Ian Charlampowicz comments: “Having two warehouses and two expert teams working together as one has been incredibly beneficial and really allowed us to collaborate on an eclectic range of broadcasts; many of which we were both working on for the first time. The overall purpose of the strategic partnership was to ensure that our clients were given a level of service they just would not find anywhere else. Given the feedback we have received from our jobs so far, this is something we have achieved”.

Whilst both ELP and WL entered 2020 with a range of exciting projects scheduled for the months ahead, this was obviously impacted by the outbreak of Covid-19. Despite this, both companies worked together to ensure they were still able to deliver a range of productions whilst adhering to the government guidelines and restrictions in place. Darren explains: “The last twelve months were unprecedented and nobody could have predicted what would happen. That said, we’ve always shared WL’s core value of adaptability and so made sure that we amended our practices accordingly so that we could still deliver for our clients. Examples of this include the BBC Proms and Festival of Remembrance where we had to load in all of the equipment while completely adhering to social distancing and other guidelines. These are still unpredictable times for so many and we want to ensure our clients feel as confident and safe as possible when drawing on our services”.

As we move into 2021, both WL and ELP are looking forward to building on this existing strategic partnership and continue offering clients the highest level of technical service for their broadcast needs. Darren states: “Joining this strategic partnership has been one of the most significant moments in ELP’s history. Partnering with WL has truly elevated what we can offer our clients and we look forward to what both 2021 and the longer future brings”. Ian concludes: “It’s not often you find two companies so in-sync when it comes to their personal relationship with customers, the commitment to their work and their passion to provide the best technical service possible. Thankfully, WL has found this in ELP and vice versa and we look forward to celebrating the anniversary of this partnership for many years to come”.
