Rory Beaton

Rory is a freelance lighting designer working both in the UK and internationally. He has previously been nominated for a Knight of Illumination Award for his work on Così fan Tutte at Opera Holland Park and was awarded the Michael Northen Award by the Association of Lighting Designers.

Originally from Scotland, Rory moved to London to train at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he subsequently graduated with First Class Honours and was the recipient of the Lord Mayor’s prize. Since then, he has gone on to design numerous productions both in the UK and further afield.

(Cuffe & Taylor); Edward II (Arts Theatre, Cambridge); The Blonde Bombshells of 1943, Summer Holiday, A Christmas Carol (Pitlochry); How Love is Spelt (Southwark); Skylight (UK Tour); Dubliners (OTC, Ireland); Macbeth, Elizabeth I, Nozze di Figaro, Gianni Schicchi, Il Tabarro, Radamisto, Idomeneo, Dido and Aeneas (English Touring Opera); Dishoom! (UK Tour); Maklena (UK Tour); Tumble Tuck (King's Head); Boat, The Best Day Ever (Company 3).

Alongside his own work, Rory sits on the executive committee of the Association of Lighting Designers and has also provided mentoring for students at Guildhall, RADA and LAMDA.
