Trui Malten

Trui Malten is an international theater designer. She designed the lights for more than 120 productions of newly devised plays, classics, opera, musicals and dance. She really enjoys the hands on experience of the experimental productions she has designed, but also the grand scale of the operas she has worked on. Trui has worked extensively abroad: in the USA, Italy, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Rumania and lately in Estonia.

On a number of occasions she was asked to design both sets and lights, which gave her the wonderful opportunity to have a longer involvement in the inspiring collaborative process of developing a piece: finding, creating and with lights transforming a space in which the action would be able take place.

Trui Malten is originally from the Netherlands. She holds an MfA from Yale University where she studied lighting design with Jennifer Tipton. She lived and worked in the US for fourteen- and in Italy for nine years. She now lives in Cambridge, England with her family.

She speaks fluent English, Dutch, Italian and German.
